Connect to Claude Desktop

MemoryLane works with any app that supports local MCPs. For most users, that app is Claude Desktop. Just click Connect inside MemoryLane and it handles the rest.

Don't skip the next step. Adding data analysis skills is required for MemoryLane to work properly.

Add data analysis skillsRequired

Skills are purpose-built prompts we made to help you get the best results out of your data. They guide Claude to find patterns, rank workflows by time spent, and suggest automations.

Without skills installed, Claude won't know how to interpret your MemoryLane data — you'll need to write complex prompts from scratch every time.

Watch how to install them:

Copy and paste this into the Marketplace plugin field shown in the video:

Capture patterns

How MemoryLane captures your workflows — and what stays private.

Starting & Stopping Recording

Start: Click the MemoryLane icon in your system tray and select Start Recording. Recording can also begin automatically on launch.

Stop: Select Stop Recording from the tray menu to end the session. Your data is saved locally and ready for analysis.

What Gets Captured

Captured

  • Screenshots at regular intervals
  • Active window titles & app names
  • Time spent in each application
  • Tab and window switching patterns

Where Data is Stored

100% local storage

All captured data stays on your machine. Nothing is uploaded to our servers. You can find your recordings in the MemoryLane data folder — access it via the tray menu under Open Data Folder.

Privacy & Security

MemoryLane gives you full control over what gets captured. Open the privacy settings by clicking the gear icon in the top right corner of the app.

Click the gear icon in the top right to open settings

Inside Capture & Privacy settings, you can configure:

  • Start on login — automatically launch MemoryLane when you turn on your computer
  • Exclude Private Browsing — skip capturing when you're in incognito or private browser windows
  • Excluded Apps — block specific apps so they're never captured (e.g. WhatsApp, 1Password, banking apps)
  • Excluded Window Titles — skip any window whose title contains specific words (e.g. "bank statement", "payroll")
  • Excluded URLs — block specific websites from being captured using wildcard patterns
